Pirelli ANGEL GT II is the new Sport Touring Tyre in line with Pirelli's interpretation of Italian Gran Turisomo (GT)

ANGEL GT II development has been focused on consolidating the former Angel GT's strengths - already a benchmark for mileage and versatility and on enhancing wet performance and confidence in order to define a new pattern of Sport Touring tyre coherent with Pirelli DNA and the Italian Gran Turismo.

A refined compound, new tread pattern, and revised carcass promise unparalleled performance for a wide range of riders.

Sport Touring is a demanding segment for tyres. A set needs to be capable of handling sporty rides, so be nimble with reliable grip throughout. But they also need to have longevity, and the ability to perform when the weather turns. Pirelli promises it all with the Angel GT II.

BENEFITS

ANGEL GT II features high-stiffness carcass with innovative veriable cord end count over the tyre section.  This solution derives from super-sport technologies, and it is coupled with industry leading compounds to generate a significant imporvement in bike handling thanks to footprint consistency, whatever the lean angle.

ANGEL GT II specifications contibute to linearize the bike's response with lean angle, making it more easiliy and intuitively controllable.

ANGEL GT II raises the bar to limit conditions that trigger electronic rider aids, and once these are triggered, its homogeneous response ensures these will generate outstanding control and safety.

DELIVERS OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE ALSO IN SERVE WET CONDITONS

ANGEL GT II delivers outstanding grip and confidence in wet conditions thanks to the high-silica compound level through to a tread pattern deried from racing DIABLO WET and RAIN technologies to ensure mechanical grip and water drainage.

ELEVATE YOUR RIDE

Thanks to dampening carcass materials coupled with new tread design, ANGEL GT II defines a new paradigm of Gran Turismo riding comfort.

MEASURE DISTANCE BY HOW YOUR WINGS CARRY YOU

ANGEL GT II's innovative tread design and compounds ensure wear regularity to the last mile.  The durable rear compound coupled with a tread pattern featuring twin longitudinal grooves and with a specifically dedicated profile, ensure the longest lifespan in sport touring tyres.

STRUCTURE

Similarly to the former ANGEL GT, the ANGEL GT II features a rayon carcass whose design derives from PIRELLI racing expertise.  The carcass is coupled with coiled 00 steel belts; in order to optimize the transmission of forces to the overlying 00 steel belt depending on lean angle, rayon carcass cord end-count varies over the tyre section, so the linerarly vary the respone with determined deflections in order to promote stability and confidence.  Rayon carcass features thin cords so to make room for a larger amount of structural rubber enhancing hysteresis, then grip.

The solution features both higher stiffness and damping than the former ANGEL GT, improving handling during lean angle transitions.

CONTACT PATCH

By comparing the pressure distribution charges of the ANGEL GT II and the former ANGEL GT and its variation with lean angle, the ANGEL GT II features an advantage in terms of contact area and better (lower) contact area variation during transitions from straight-on riding to lean, which turns into enhanced contact feeling and contributes to mitigate motion perturbations.

TREAD PATTERN DESIGN

The ANGEL GT II tread pattern evolves ANGEL GT's by benefiting from technologies specifically implemented for racing products like PIRELLI DIABLO RAIN and DIABLO WET; into World Superbike competitions - taking palce also in severe wet surface conditions - twin centre longitudinal grooves and progressively angled grooves feature PIRELLI product beside slicks.

SAID CHARACTERISTICS AIM FOR:

Improving both water evacuation and wear evenness

Calibrating the amount of rubber to the road in limit lean angles still preserving the water-evacuation efficiency

Maximizing high-speed stability by reducing the effect of torsional perturbations on the contact patch

The technical features of the ANGEL GT II carcass coupled with innovative sport touring compounds allow it to feature this new sport touring product with the distinctive traits of twin longitudinal grooves and progressively angled grooves both on fronts and rears, matching the benefical effect of a racing solution for handling and grip with extended mileage.

COMPOUND

ANGEL GT II features dual compound on the rear and single compound on the front tyres.  According to PIRELLI know-how in the sport touring segment, this compound scheme represents the expedient to achieve all sport touring target performances in all different conditions, which includes durability, even wear and stability when loaded.

ANGEL GT II fronts feature a full silica compound (silicon dioxide represents the 100% of fillers bended with rubber); this choice is driven by wet performance target, being silicon dioxide capable to trigger chemical grip beteween wet road and rubber.

ANGEL GT II rears feature a dual compound layout with cap-and-base scheme.

The centre compound stripe is approximately 45mm wide (20-25% of the overall tyre section depending on tyre size); a blend featuring a high rate of silica (>50%) and a balanced mixture of carbon-black and resins aims for high speed stability, a superior resistance to abrasion and new level of adherence in wet conditions.

The full silica compound on the shoulder, targeting excellence for wet grip, is characterised by functionalized polymers that enhance the dispersion of the silica thus matching duration with the fine chemical grip, which turns into adherence also on low friction surfaces at large lean angles.

HEAVY WEIGHT MOTORCYCLES VERSION (A)

Within the different areas of the touring world, some motorcycles freature specific architecture requiring dedicated tyre specification, but sill use standard tyre sizes.  PIRELLI designs special versions of the tyre for these machines.

The (A) special version is PIRELLI's way to bring the ANGEL GT II performance to a wider circulating park, including all those motorcycles that due to overall weight and geometry require a different type of tyre construction.

On these models, (A) version enhance running stability by damping the oscillations caused by road irregularities or steering.

On rear tyres, (A) version 2-ply carcasses are implemented.  Moreover (A) versions feature fabric angles in order to increase carcass stiffness.

(A) versions are not designed for larger load capacity, but they are specific version dedicated to specific motorcycles.

Examples of motorcycles which should use (A) verison :

BMW R1200RS & RT

BMW K1600GT

Yamaha VFR 1300

Yamaha FJR 1300
